P1821 British Cavalry Troopers Sword
This is a perfect example of a British regulation 1821 Cavalry sword issued to the troopers.
It’s in superb condition & complete in every detail.
The blade, hilt & scabbard are clean with no pitting.
There is brown staining to the scabbard & hilt, but stains only that would rub off.
Blade length = 910mm, (35.82”)
Blade width at Ricasso = 32mm, (1.259”)
Overall sword length = 1060mm, (41.7”)
The slightly curved single fullered blade is bright & clean in original condition.
It has no markings or stamps except for a cross on the spine.
The hilt is great condition with only brown staining.
It is straight with no bends, dents or cracks.
The leather grip is in perfect condition, hard with age, but no splits, or missing areas.
The backstrap has a slight moulded thumb depression as well as the regulation “ears” to the grip area.
The scabbard is also clean, no pitting with only brown staining.
It is complete & fits the blade perfectly & firm.
Only one tiny dent to be seen.
It is stamped near the throat “GILL”
This makes this 1821 an early version as Gill manufactured swords in Birmingham from 1774 to 1826.
Still has its large hanger rings in place as well as the original screws at the throat.
