PAIR OF RARE LARGE C1890 ITALIAN MAJOLICA POTTERY BACCHANALIAN WALL MOUNTS NR
Description
This listing is for a fine pair of rare circa 1890’s Italian Majolica art pottery Bacchanalian large wall mounts. They measures 10 1/2 inches long, 8 inches wide and extends about 8 1/2 inches out from the wall. (26.6 by 20.3 by 21.5 cm).
The Bacchanalian heads have a cobalt blue tin glaze with heavy applied gold highlighting. The faces are surrounded by curls, oak leaves with acorns. Draped around the faces are hoofed feet decorated in gilt. The pottery is not signed. There are wires on the back for hanging.Please note anywhite spots are from lighting glare and arenot on thewall mounts themselves.
The condition of both is very good, but both have a tight hairline along the top flat platform. The hairlines do not travel down to the front of the faces and are contained to the top only. One has a flake off one of the hoofs. There is also the usual glaze craquelure, this is minor.
