Pair Vintage Art Deco Slip Shade Sconces By Markel For Sale
Two vintage Art Deco slip shade sconces made by Markel in the late 1920s or early 1930s.This is a gorgeous pair in very good condition, and includes the original glass slip shades. The shades are a lovely soft amber- or peach-colored glass with a glossy, iridescent finish. There are a few tiny flea bites on the back edges (as is common with slip shades of this age), but nothing that shows from the front, and no chips or cracks. One shade has some paint flecks on the interior (see photo 8) that could probably be cleaned off with a little effort. The sconces are made of a heavy, solid metal (steel, perhaps?) and the original painted finish is in good condition, with a nice, aged patina. They appear to have been rewired and given new sockets in the not-too-distant past. Still, you might want to have them checked out by a licensed electrician before installing. They are missing the original mounting bolts, but replacement bolts won't be visible with the glass shades in place. The sconces each measure 8 inches tall by 5 3/4 inches wide. The shades are each 8 1/4 inches tall, 4 1/2 inches wide, and about 4 1/4 inches deep. With the shades in place, each fixture is 11 inches tall by 5 3/4 inches wide, and projects 5 inches from the wall.Really a beautiful set of original Art Deco lights!
Please I will be listing my entire collection of vintage Art Deco lighting in the coming days— including an identical pair of these Markel sconces without the original slip shades.
