Listed here is a PARKER VACUMATIC SENIOR. As far as vacumatics go this model is one of the rarest as it had such a short production life. This model was only made for one year and can be seen as the design precursor to the Slender Maxima. This is not a senior maxima or oversize. It is a just Vacumatic Senior. It has the slender girth of a standard Vacumatic, oversized nib, and oversized length. A design feature found only on the Vac Senior is the style of the cap bands with the middle cap band being thicker than other two. This pen has two striped jewels.
BARREL & CAP
The cap are is in very good condition. There are of course major NO scratches, chips, and or cracks to the surface of the pen. The bottom cap band shows no gold anymore. The top band shows very minor brassing along its edges. The middle band which is thicker than the other two shows no brassing. The two striped end jewels are in pristine condition with no fading at all. The cap screws securely onto the barrel threads. The clip shows some high point brassing to the clip. The blind cap's tassie shows minor brassing along its outer edges.
The barrel is in very good to excellent condition. The
barrel imprint is entirely present and quite readable. Though the celluloid
has ambered to a cherry red it is quite transparent (please see
pictures). One can easily see the breather tube and diaphragm.
NIB & LOCKDOWN FILLER
The nib is in very good condition. The platinum mask is well preserved. The nib's imprint is mostly present. The P and A of PARKER are rather light. The nib sports a super smooth fine point. The nib has been adjusted for smoothness and flow.
The lockdown filler is pristine. There are no scratches on the plunger. The filler functions flawlessly and quietly too.
A new Standard/Major Vacumatic Diaphragm cut to the correct length of 26.5 mm has been properly installed. (Please see below for additional details regarding restoration services.
The box is is very good condition. There is no damage at all. There are a few smudges on the top face of the box though they are light.
pen has been cleaned and tested for function (filling and writing). It
is READY TO WRITE upon filling with standard fountain pen ink.
new Vacumatic Standard/Major diaphragm cut to the correct length of 26.5
mm has been installed. The diaphragm has been lubricated on its outer
surface (unexposed to ink) with 100% pharmaceutical grade talcum powder
(excellent dry lubricant). The inner surface has been lubricated with 100%
silicone grease to: 1. aid with the filler installation; 2. aid filler operation; and 3. extends the mechanism's longevity by minimizing the impact of wear that results from normal use.
(yes, only the best) has been sparingly applied to the
surface to protect and preserve the GOLDEN PEARL celluloid surfaces
and nickel plated trim. Renaissance Wax is used by professional vintage pen
restorers and other esteemed institutions such as the British Museum. It
is great for protecting metals from oxidation and for protecting
surfaces that often come into contact with hands. This wax will not stain or discolor
with aging. It is 1. acid neutral; 2. water resistant; and 3. alcohol resistant. The Renaissance Wax
will preserve the color of the celluloid and protect from color loss.
The pen has been cleaned and conservatively polished.
The nib has been adjusted for smoothness and flow. Beyond making sure that the pens I restore write, I like to make sure they write well. Using a loupe, premium micro-abrasives, and when necessary, specially made nib repair tools each nib is carefully adjusted to provide an enjoyable writing experience suited to the particular characteristics of the nib.
