Baby chicks have been a perennial
Easter theme, and PEZ first came out with one without a hat for it's
introductory "seasonal" issue in 1970. They became a
limited, but recurring issue. In 1976, when the new 3.9 stems came out,
they modified the design by adding a hat to the chick. In 1987 thin
feet were added to the Austria stems. The 4.9
patent was issued in late 1990 and initial Chick stems were from
Czechoslovakia keeping the same
1991, after a short run, the chicks were then made in Hungary, still with
the same design. 1992 saw the first design modification in 15 years with
the elimination of the pin that seemed to go through the egg. The
edges of the egg were refined and made sharper and more even. In
1995, the egg was redone again to take away all the sharp edges. The
design continued on until 2003 when a completely new Easter series was
