This is for anice old Victorian scrap book titled 'The Gentle Reminder' published by Leavitt & Allen. Its an interesting old book full of various littlebits of social history, It looksas though it was published as a book meant to be someones personal album and scrap book, there are various very detailed balck and whiteprints interspersed through the album with blank pages in between to be filled by the owner. This one was owned by Miss Ellen Waites and the album was given to her friend Mary Anne Millar in 1858. It has various interesting bits that have been added byher, there are some very interesting photos of Edinburgh and surrounding areasdating around the late 1800s, written passages, handdrawn pictures and sketchesand some pages of paper armorial seals including some where the seals have been used to spell out a verse.The book is dated 1858 in the front along with an inscription and the cover is very worn but the photos and pictures inside are invery good condition. It measures 240mm (9.5") x 200mm (8").
