COIN#169 - These coins were found years ago by members of our staff while treasure hunting in Europe with Whites metal detectors.Permission was granted to search a very old plantation where the inhabitants of the area turned up numerous individual coins by accident from time to time. After 2 days of searching, our team, turned up a small cache near one of the old structures. The cache consisted of 144 copper coin,all dating between 1500\'s and 1600\'s. All were Spanish Empire coins, attributed to pirates said to have frequented the area regularly. We were able to purchase the complete cache from the owner of the land, and it was on display in our store for years along with many other coins and relics. Each coin is different, as these are hammered coins and individually struck. As the Spanish often used any copper planchet available, some coins will be of irregular shapes, some may be somewhat off center, some show cracks in the planchet from having been struck with too much force, some coins show overstrikes over the original design. An incredible variety, you may want to own more than just one of these.Eventually, as time permits, all the coins part of the cache will belisted for sale.
