Original, German WW1, solid Berlin iron, Gentleman\'s pocket watch chain/Albert withwell made original dog clip and T bar.
C~ dated 1916.
These were given by the German government to citizens who exchanged their gold to fund the war effort. The campaign was called the \'Iron Time\' and people who wore iron jewellery were considered to be patriotic to their Country (people who wore their gold were not).
Very rare now-days to find one complete with all its original fittings.
Measures; 28cm / 11\"total length and weighsa very respectable 20.9 grams.
Highly suitable forany size Gentleman\'s pocket watch.
Very unusual oblong shaped links which have a large lozenge shaped panel to centre (measures 3.2cm x 1.5cm) which bears the German eagle to one side and to the other side is written in raised script; IN EISERNER ZEIT 1916 (In Iron Times 1916).
Two smaller panels at each end upon which is written (again in raised script) to one side; GOLD ZUR WEHR EISEN ZUR EHR 1916 (I gave gold for iron).
Robust original dog clipto oneend (works correctly) and large T bar to the other end (measures 3.5cm length).
Goodclean, brightcondition with no damage and just a little bit of overall patina (showing under eyeglass) commensurate with age.
A highly impressive German WW1 pocket watch chain.
