PROMETHEAN FLAME Occult Aleister Crowley Waite Freemason Satanism Philosophy Art
Exploring the lineage of those who challenged dogmatic thinking, from the Renaissance and our modern day, Promethean Flame delves deep into religion, philosophy and the arts to explain the importance that the challengers of the past still have on our future. Covering everything from the earliest secret societies such as the Templars and Chaos magicians to Rosicrucian Society, The Masonic Order, and facts on fascinating key individuals such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Napoleon Bonaparte, The Hellfire Club and Sir Francis Dashwood, all the way up to to The Golden Dawn occultists, such as Arthur Edward Waite, and Aleister Crowley. Corvis links the works of scientists and creative thinkers like Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates to the cause. As well the lives and works of a multitude of Decadent Romantics such as Mary and Percy Shelly, Poe, and Lord Byron are examined. We peer into the concepts of Friedrich Nietzsche, Ayn Rand, and others, broadening our understanding of ourselves and the world we live in. By explaining and drawing insight from popular films such as From Hell and The Da Vinci Code and National Treasure, Corvis proves history holds secrets both fascinating and worthy of our attention.
“According to ancient myth, the Titan Prometheus was the creator of man. Under orders of Zeus, he populated the world with all sorts of creatures, and endowed them with gifts such as claws, fur and wings. However, in taking so long in constructing a creature in a shape after the gods themselves, the various gifts had been depleted on the others by the time he got to man. Prometheus felt sorry for the mortals he saw shivering in the cold winter nights, so after arguing with Zeus to aid them, all to no avail, he decided to take fire from Olympus. After stealing Apollo’s chariot, he carried a burning fennel stalk to a group of humans and bequeathed its secrets to all humankind. In order to placate the Father of Gods, Prometheus killed a great bull and then served it to the Gods. However, always the trickster he in fact served them only the bones, gristle and fat, and feasted upon the meat with his human friends, further incurring the wrath of Zeus. Zeus punished him for this and various other crimes.
“The story of Prometheus is very similar to those of Loki from Norse tales, also a giant instead of a god. Both were tricksters and associated with fire, and incidentally, both were tortured while chained to a rock for disobeying their supreme god. The Promethean myth also bears a close resemblance to the fall of man in the Judeo-Christian tradition. The gift of fire can be equated with the forofferden fruit. Ironically, the name Lucifer literally translates to “Light Bearer,” hinting at a borrowed concept of the stolen fire from heaven. After looking closer at various myths of the world it is clear that in each we see aspects of the vengefulness, jealousy, and repression of humanity by Zeus, Odin and Yahweh that are identical with each other. The work contained within this book is a greatly detailed history of rebellion against such dogma and repression. From various accused heretics, I trace the lineage of questioning Christians to modern day occultists, new age spirituality, and LaVey’s Satanism. Outlined are the basic thoughts and actions from noted figures such as Grandmaster Jacques De’ Molay, John Dee, Sir Frances Bacon, Eliphas Levi, and Aleister Crowley, to philosophers ranging from Johann Goethe, Friedrich Nietzsche, Martin Heidegger, Herbert Spencer, H. L. Mencken, and Ayn Rand.” – From the Introduction
“Promethean Flame traces varied threads of free-thinking as practiced by rampant individualists, sorcerers, rogues, and creators as well as secret societies, also touching upon how their inextinguishable sparks continue to impact our contemporary culture in both cinema and music. It will kindle your desire to delve even more deeply into these fascinating people.” - Magus Peter H. Gilmore, High Priest, Church of Satan
