These Edwardian style vases were made byA. G. Harley Jones, Fenton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire England. Both vases are stamped on bottom with the Harley Jones England makers mark and "Made in England". The number 1099 is embossed on the bottom of both vases. They are heavily embossed with an attractive blush of pale green and pink with touches of burnt orange highlights. The main bodies of the vases are a striking cobalt blue with countryside scenes depicting young women tending to their sheep. The scenes are framed in gold and are surrounded by lovely gold embellishments.Vase #1 depicts a warm scene with two young women surrounded by sheep. One young woman poses holding a baby lamb. The other caries an apron full of flowers. Vase #2 depicts a complementary countryside scene with two young women tending to their flock.
ConditionVase #1-Two Girls Facing Forward- is in good condition. It has minor crazing and worn gold consistent with being an authentic antique. There is a tiny flea size white spot on the back of the vase under the glaze (it isn't damaged-just a small blemish).
Vase #2 Two Girls looking Downward- has crazing and worn gold consistent with being an authentic antique. It is damaged and has old repairs.
Serious efforts have been made to report and display the true condition of these vases. They have been very heavily discounted to account for the damage on vase #2, but they both display beautifully. The scenes on the vases compliment each other beautifully, so I didn't feel right about selling them separately. Please view the photos carefully and contact me with any additional questions before you buy.
