Pair of 19th century French face screens - Aesop\'s fables - embroidered:
$136.77

A pair of 19th century French face screens, worked in a variety of stitches. Some couched threads, some plush work, and other stitches. Each face screen measures from the top edge (discounting the silk fringe) down to the end of the stick - 42.5cms (17\"). The fans are in good condition for their age and obviously the colours have faded a little over the years. On the pink edged screen, there is some \'foxing\' on the background canvas, and both have some staining on the watered silk back. Both sticks have lost some of their brightness - as to be expected - and one stick has an old split at the top near the two little pins, and two tiny marks on the back of the stick. The fables are: The Fox and the Stork and The Fox and the Crow. The background canvas is beige.
