A pair of Patent 1907 Adlake Railroad Candle holders.
The pair arethe earlierpatented spring loaded push up candlelamp style holders with the integral back wall plate and bullet chimneys. The Sept 10 1907 patent date is stamped on the top, granted to rank Schuetz of Chicago IL.
The lamps are also stamped with AdamsWestlake and Adlake on the front. Thechimneys are typical Collins bullet style oil lamp chimneys, oneis signed with the normalCorning Pyrex mark, the other is an older flint chimney signed "Star Glass" on top.The back plate is slotted for easy mounting and removal from any screw, hook,or nail.Some say these were used in thecaboose,Post Officetrain cars,or for emergency lighting in case oflost power.But I believe they were usedin the Dining cars to provide more ambiance. In any case.
The bracket lamps measure11 1/4" tall, and protrude about 3" from the wall.
Condition is great, the lamps have been cleaned and polished toa shiny brass patina. The candles look period, oneunused and the other used twice. The chimneys have no chips, cracks, or fogginess. I do note some short cracks at the bottom of thebrass gallery holes and some thin dents and wrinkles in the bodies.
