Pair Of White & Gold Staffordshire Spaniels - Staffordshire Pottery Dogs For Sale
Pair of Staffordshire Spaniel Dogs Here we have for sale this charming pair of Staffordshire pottery spaniels, in very good condition. Standing approximately 9 inches high, the right hand one of the pair is slightly smaller, due to the very top of its head being slightly squashed when the clay was still wet - it has two very slight hairline cracks on its head, but these are glazed over and feels solid, so we assume this to be a slight manufacturing defect. We are unsure of the dates of the dogs, though we do believe them to be genuine antique dogs, due to the crazing beneath the glaze and the attention to detail of the hand painted features of the dogs, which are far better quality than others we have seen which have been obvious later copies. The dogs are unmarked underneath and have a hole in the back from manufacture. Their collars, tags and chains, along with the painted grass and details on their legs and bodies are in gold, whilst the noses are black (the right hand one's nose is slightly more matt black than the other, which has more glaze over it), with handpainted whiskers, eyes and eyebrows. This pair have a very attractive expression on their faces - again, unlike others we have seen that have too wide or badly painted eyes. We hope that this pair will find a home with a collector of such pieces - they weight 854g and 904g respectively and once packed, will probably weigh round about 2kg. As we can only post overseas using Royal Mail for items up to 2kg, the overseas postage is dependent on us being able to pack them safely for the 2kg limit (couriers will charge much more).
