Charming Pairof vintage Borghese Peasant Couple - Woman and Man Cast Plaster Statues

in overall excellent condition no visible paintlifting or loss, and no chips or breaks in the cast forms.

A wonderful pair of vintage Borghese decorativefigurines — a young peasant couple, each standing near a tree stump, the womanholding what appears to be a dead bird, and the man standing by, silentlylooking on, with what looks to be a bent wooden cane resting against his knee.Both figures are cast in a hard, high quality plaster and then painted in agolden cream and light olive green, with a darker gray-brown-green tree stumpand ground. Research confirms that the surfaces were then deliberatelydistressed to mimic years of wear and patina.

These Borghese statuettes date to around the 1940s or1950s, with detailed workmanship of the earlier Borghese pieces.
