Tuscany Book offers
A large original 1731 copper engraving referring to a particular Bible passage.
Scheuchzer, Johann Jakob.
Kupfer-Tafeln zu der Physica Sacra...
Augsburg: Pfeffel, 1731 This original copper engraving is from the monumental work by the paleontologist Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (Aug.2, 1672- June 23, 1733), who believed in the literal meaning of the Bible. For instance, he believed that the Great Flood happened and was convinced that he had in his fossil collection the remains of a human victim who had perished in that Flood. Scheuchzer published this work, attempting to illustrate and help to explain the entire Bible based on the latest state of scientific knowledge, which turned out to be one of the most expensive Bible productions ever. The engraver signed the engraving and there are many signatories, showing that there was a large group of artists and artisans that worked on this wonderful undertaking.
Size of the leaf with the original copper engraving: ca. 16.5” x 10.25” (420 mm x 260 mm).
Size of the plate impression: ca. 12.5" x 8" (320 mm x 200 mm).
Condition: The wide-margined, untrimmed engraving is on hand-made, water-marked paper in exceptionally good condition, with minor evidence of aging: soiling, or spotting, original paper flaws or impurities, "plate dirt," edge or margin flaws, etc. We will mention flaws that cannot be seen on the photograph.
Pictured: The engraving for sale and the title page. The following title page is given for reference. It is not part of the lot.
Please note: We never restore or treat our prints with chemicals to enhance their appearance. Therefore, you can be confident that this engraving will not deteriorate beyond the natural aging process. Similar Items: For similar items, please see all of our listings. FOR SINGLE PURCHASES: We ask that buyers pay for a win within five days after the sale ends if you do not intend to offer on other items. We will send your item within one business day after receipt of payment.
FOR MULTIPLE PURCHASES: We offer combined shipping, to help you save a substantial amount of money. To illustrate: If you have 10 normal prints sent in individual packages, the total s&h fee would be between $70 and $125, depending on the weight and size of your wins. If you have these 10 wins sent in one package, the s&h fee would amount to about $9.50 to $14 depending on weight and size.
IF YOU CHOOSE COMBINED SHIPPING RATES: IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU WAIT TO PAY FOR ALL THE ITEMS UNTIL AFTER YOUR FINAL ITEM IS WON.
PAYMENT WILL HAVE TO SHOW UP IN PAYPAL AT THE LATEST TWENTY FIVE (25) DAYS AFTER WINNING YOUR FIRST ITEM. We would be grateful if you let us know that you are on combined shipping, so that we will not send you reminders of unpaid items.
Please note: regulations require us to send item(s) that you pay for within one business day of receipt of payment, whether you buy one item or whether you would like to be on combined shipping. IMPORTANT: Please let us send you an invoice before you pay. At times there are glitches in the automatic invoice system and there might be a statement that our shipping and handling are free. Unfortunately, we cannot offer free shipping and handling. There is always a basic shipping charge and after your first win, there are small increments in the charge to take care of the extra weight of the additional items, etc. IMPORTANT SHIPPING INFORMATION FOR OUR FOREIGN BUYERS:
Unfortunately, recent large postage increases by the US Postal Service for international mail have forced us to raise our international shipping and handling fees. We will now be charging by the estimated weight of your package, regardless of the number of items it contains. For example, if you purchased five 8 inch X 12 inch prints, we would estimate that your package would weigh 5 ounces if we use a mailing tube, and we would charge $15 for s & h. If you bought additional items, your shipping and handling charges would remain the same until we estimated that your package would weigh more than 8 ounces. Then you would be charged a total of $18 for s & h, and so on.
The following shipping and handling charges are for those countries in the US Postal Service's Price Groups 3-9 (everywhere except Canada and Mexico): Up to 8.0 ounces: $15.00; 8.1 ounces to 16.0 ounces: $18.00; 16.1 ounces to 24.0 ounces: $20.00; Weights greater than 24 ounces, please ask. Shipping and handling rates to Canada would be $12; $13; and $15, respectively. Rates to Mexico would be $14; $17; and $20.
If we mistakenly estimate the weight of your parcel to be greater than it actually is, and its weight is in a lower weight range, we will refund the overpayment. PLEASE NOTE: TUSCANY BOOKS HAS A SPECIAL INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING POLICY FOR ALL PACKAGES WHOSE VALUE IS $150 OR MORE. IF YOU THINK THIS MAY APPLY TO YOU, PLEASE CONTACT US FOR MORE DETAILS.
