Miniature Childs Sponge Decorated Teapot Staffordshire England c.1830

This is rare miniature spatterware or sponge ware handdecorated pearlware teapot, circa 1830. Originally part of a child’sdollhouse miniature tea service, the round lidded pitcher standsjust 4 inches tall on a raised pedestal base. Applied handle with acanthus leaf terminals. It shows the influence of theVictorian love of nature and the tradition of fine hand crafted folk arts. Thedecoration is applied in overall cobalt blue with hand sponge work, finishedwith pearlware glaze.

The pot is unmarked. It is ofEnglish origin, possibly the Staffordshire region.

The teapotpot is in overall verygood condition. A couple of fleabites on the rim of the lid, an old small chip on the foot, and no otherchips, cracks or repairs. Minor firing imperfections original to the making andglaze crazing consistent with age. Light overall glaze crazing The sponged andspatter decoration is clear and crisp. A beautiful and earthy example. We are also listing asimilar companion coffeepot, not a matched set but a fine complement for display. A perfect addition to any dollhouse collection or miniature pearlware display.
