Any dark spaces or shadows you see are not there on this compact. It is shiny gold.....everywhere.....and was difficult for me to capture with photos. You\'ll even see some X\'s which are the reflection of my dining room ceiling fan where I took these photos. HHhhmmmm......very shiny reflective gold.

Offered here for your consideration is a beautiful and perfect compact vanity case made of solid 14K yellow gold throughout. Inside is the \"14K\" mark and the makers mark of \"Schanfein & Tamis\" from New York City USA1915 to 1931, last known date of business according to my reference materials. High quality workmanship is easy to see.

It opens with a slight push on the sapphire button on the side andsnaps securely closed to remain so, until it\'s opened again. The hinge is straight, not sloppyor loose fitting (as some are with this 80 years of age)so it shows no wear whatsoever.

It is2 &3/4\" long X 2\" wide X 1/2\" deepwith a chain and finger ring 5\" long and having 3 genuine sapphire cabachons to use for opening the various compartments. Inside is the original powder puff whichappears now as if it was never used........probably a gift originally (lucky lady !)... it is monogrammed..... shows no signs of powder, rouge nor any other cosmetic. The little doors open nicely, and are just as pretty as can be! Our photos tell the story so please look closely.

I will speak now to the gold weight even though it has little bearing on the value of such a perfect80+ year old case. This weighs 89 grams. We removed the shiny metal mirror (which comes out for the case to be cleaned) with it\'s celluloid backing (also perfect) and it weighs 6.2 grams so the actual weight of 14K gold is 82.8 grams. Yes, almost 3 ounces of solid gold---NOT plated,NOT gold filled.......solid 14K gold. Beautiful.
