The Peruzzi family of Florence, Italy has been making fine silver jewelry since the 1500s. Their family business still thrives in a shop on the Ponte Vecchio today. In the early 1930s, Gino Peruzzi and his wife Lena opened Peruzzi Jewel Shop in Boston where they followed the family's tradition of handcrafting fine silver jewelry. In 1942, Aldo Fioravanti began to work for the Peruzzis in Boston. They sent him to Florence to study in the shop on the Ponte Vecchio with Gino's brother and learn the Peruzzi craft of making fine silver jewelry. He eventually purchased Peruzzi Jewel Shop in 1945 when Lena retired. The retail location on Boylston Street was closed in 1973 and his consulting work ended in 1981. Peruzzi Boston was known for creating unique custom pieces that were made on site in the shop on Boylston Street.
