Possibly the single best PEZ lot I have ever offered in 22 years.
This is the prototype set for the 6 Eerie Spectres !!!
Believed to be a "one of a kind", unique set with no other examples existing----this is the SAME set shown in my book Collecting PEZ 1995 on page 31 (In that photo, the Vamp was missing because at the time it did not belong to me). These are also,as best as I can determine, the SAME set shown on the 1979 PEZ ad sheet (see photo #9 and explanation below).
History :
these 6 items all came from the sameformer PEZ employeearound 1991-1992. A woman who had worked for PEZ in the 80s (and I think still did at the time) consigned them to be saleed through a dealer. Since the PEZ hobby was very "young" at that time, the true importance of these were not recognized by most collectors. All of these have been sitting in the same collection for 20 years. They were never again on the market.
1979 PEZ Ad Sheet
Photo #9 is a scan of the original salesman sheet for the Eerie Spectres. It is quite clear that the heads shown are NOT the actual dispensers heads but are plaster mockups or prototypes. Even then, the heads had been chipped and had some paint scuffs as the photos clearly indicate. In fact, taking the Spook and Air Spirit as examples, you can see that the ear tips of the Spook and the point on the top of the head of the AirSpirit have been color retouched on the ad sheet to cover defects on those tips.
Since obviouslyanother 10+ years intervened after the ad sheet photos were taken, when they arrived to me, they had even more chipping and paint loss than in the photos. But in the comparison of the heads in current state to the photos, you do see many of the same defects.......in some cases the defects got worse........but it helps to satisfy us that these are likely the VERY SAME prototypes shown on the ad sheet.
CONDITION :
condition should be obvious from the photos which show every head from all 4 sides and the bottom. An actual Batman Softhead is put in picture #6 and #7 to show scale. Note on the Scarewolf that one ear seems to have a repair where a chip was glued back on.
SOLD AS A SET.......the only way I would consider splitting these up is if I had a buyer for EVERY SINGLE ONE before splitting up the set as singles.
COMBINED SHIPPING? YES...I can ship multiplepurchases allin the same box (when realistic) for LESS $ than if you had had them all shipped separately.
MY PHOTOS- If more than 1 item is shown in a photo....then items are in SEPARATE listings (unless otherwise stated)! Read description!
