VINTAGE MILITARY WRISTWATCH with ORIGINAL MOVEMENT

The subject of this review isan interesting rare specimen of the men’s timepiece from Phinney Walker Company. Thisis a rare British Royal AirForce version of timepiece.
Unfortunately the former dialhas been strongly spoilt; therefore it has been professionally updated. The new light dial is executed in a military style. Itfeatures easily readable large Arabicfigures of the simple shape inthe military style, luminescent hands and a sub-second’s dial.
The three-piece case with solidlugs is in good preservation. The back lidof the case has the engraving \"S2406\" and the military arrow– the sign of the Royal Air Force.
Thewinding crown is in very good shape and operates properly.
This mechanical watch has an original brandedmovement. On the movement there are inscriptions: \"PHIHHEY WALKER Co Inc, NEW YORK,MADE IN SWITZERLAND,SIX 6 JEWELS\". The signedoriginal movement with 6 genuine jewels is in an excellent status which wasvery well saved, considering age of this watch. .
This military watch was altered from pocket to wristwatch.
The watch is fitted on a new 20 mm black genuine high-quality leather strapwith chrome steel buckle. The beautiful strap that is stitched by white threadsis military style and goes very well with this wonderful watch.

The timepiece is in workingcondition, well hold time. It iscertainly collectable specimen!

HISTORY: The Phinney-WalkerCo. was founded in New Yorkin ca. 1903. Inthe 1910s and 1920s they designed and manufactured automobile clocks. The mostpopular Rim-Wind Car Clock called \"Embassy\" was manufactured in 1925and was an eight day clock that was wound and set by rotating the outer rim(source). It was mounted among others in the 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom II. Theearlier version of the Phinney-Walker, also an eight day clock, was mounted inFord Model-T.
Startingfrom the 1930s the company became less a producer and more a marketing companybuying movements from others and marketing under their own name.
Itwas active till 1970s. The production was outsourced to many different companiesplaced in Germany (Semca), United States (mainly in Connecticut),Japan and Switzerland.
PhinneyWalker Co. was also very popular for marketing travel alarm clocks in the1950s.
