This sale is for an amazing original photograph by Bill Groethe of the surviving members of the Sioux tribe that were present at the battle of Little Bighorn with George Armstrong Custer in June of 1876. The photograph was taken at Custer State Park in South Dakota on September 2, 1948. Bill was the only professional photographer present at this event.The photograph includes Little Warrior, Pemmican, Little Soldier, Dewey Beard, John Sitting Bull, High Eagle, Iron Hawk, Comes Again, and Nicholas Black Elk. . John Sitting Bull, though not a survivor himself, was present to represent Sitting Bull, his adoptive father.This is a less produced version of the members standing.Bill has written in his own hand on the back the names of the members in the photo. Also is a dedication dated 3/5 1996.
