Royal Copenhagen produced a whole series of these small porcelain wall plaques with witty grooks (danish gruk) by the Danish mathematician, inventor, designer, author and poet Piet Hein. They measure about 6 5/8\" tall by 5 1/2\" wide and are in the shape of a superellipse, a shape that Hein was very fond of. There is a small .15\" hole near the top edge by which the plaque can be hung.This plaque has the grook \"He that lets the small things bind him leaves the great undone behind him.\" on the front and the Royal Copenhagen Denmark with the three wave logo underneath which is the word \"FAJANCE\". Fajance is the Danish translation of the English faience which is the tin oxide clear coating the plaque is fired in. PIET HEIN is printed with 1954 22 underneath. The front finish is in excellent condition with no chips, no cracks, no crazing and no nicks. The rear has no cracks, no crazing and two small spots that are unglazed. I think these are caused by glazing bubbles defects. There is one other very small glazing bubble on the rear. I have listed three different grook plaques.
