Pietro Giacomo Palmieri (italian) Peasant Woman, Rare Etching Proof ? C.1760:
Artist:Pietro Giacomo Palmieri (Italian, 1737- 1804)
Subject:Peasant womanMedium:Etching on watermarked laid paper Date:c. 1760 - 1804
Size of image:39 x 32 cm approx., with margins Signed 'Palmerius f.' in image, below woman's right shoe.Palmerius was chiefly interested in depictingpeasant life in 18th century Italy, working mainly inpen and ink. His output as a printmakerseems to have been minimal; the British Museum owns just a single etching by him, while I cannot trace any other etchings on the internet. The BM's print is also printed inbrown inks, and depicts peasant fact theetching offered here has no printed title and credits below the image implies it is a proof, which for whatever reasonwas never published - this would explain the absence of information relating to it.Possibly a pair (or fromthe sameseries), to an etching of a peasant boy - also listed on my store.
