Post War Wwii Maine Central, Boston Maine B&m Railroad For Sale
'Presenting Our New Babies - Twelve Sets of Twins' ; This is a post WWII Leaflet put out by the Boston and Maine, and Maine Central Railroads advertising their new trains, the first post war coaches provided by any of the New England Railroads.
It opens to 38 inches, and is 4 inches wide.
The names of the coaches came from a contest where 240,000 children from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts entered with suggestions.
These names run along the leaflet and the images are so cute, a view from both inside and outside the coach, showing people relaxing, reading, eating etc. The leaflet informs of a new porter service, at no extra cost. Overhead baggage racks, comfortable head rests, air conditioning, and circulating equipment are some of the new features. The 'Sleepy Hollow' chairs were designedby a Harvard Universityprofessor, after1000 travellers were measured and their specifications were used to make the most comforatble seating available. A new restaurant-lounge car now serves both snacks and full meals, with prices consistently low. Drinks included liquor in the dining section. Insulation insured a quiet trip, free from vibrations. The body of the cars were built from light weight alloy steel, sheathed with stainless steel. Built in New England by New England Workmen. Adjustable lounging chairs, scenic paniramic windows, luxurious interiors and marvelous lighting are just some more of the points highlighted.
