Here is a three chime steam whistle made by the William Powell Co. (union brass works).”Powell” is stamped on the valve as shown.
William Powell founded the Powell Valve and Brass Works Company in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1846.
The whistle has been nicely polished and is in excellent condition with a couple of minor dings.It measures 9½” tall including the valve. .The valve opening is 1”.It appears the lever has been replaced at some point.
This size whistle could have been used for any number of steam applications: a steam donkey; small railroad locomotive; caboose; tractor; large boats or small ships; machine shops or foundries; anywhere steam was available.A nice piece for any railroadiana or steam memorabilia collector.
