Prattware lid with an image of the 1876 Centennial Expo in Philadelphia. Made the in England the piece measures apprx 4.25\"\" across.Very good condition, some wear to the surface, crazing on the back, see pictures. There is a 1\" touch up on the bottom edge. Some white paint over a light chip or glaze skip.
In the 1850\'s F&R Pratt & Co. started producing a line of earthenware pots/jars used for food, toiletries and pharmaceuticals. The lids were decorated with brightly colored transfer printed engravings, designed by artist Jesse Austin.The engravings were incredibly popular and almost immediately people began collection the lids, and occasionally the whole pot. The first exhibition of the Prattware lids was held in 1887.
