Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 a.Historic presidential Americana, Lithographic Limestone printing plates, used for offset printing. 2.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.Used for printing the luncheon invitations for President Woodrow Wilson, dated December 10, 1915. The invitation was extended by The Chamber of Commerce of Columbus, Ohio. 3.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 4.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.The listed Honorary Guests at the luncheon included, amongst others: Republican Ohio Senator, “Hon. Warren G. Harding” Governor of Ohio, “Frank B. Willis” Mayor of Columbus, Ohio, “Geo. J. Karb” Congressman from Columbus, Ohio, “Clement Laird Brumbaugh” Director of Public Service, Columbus, Ohio, “S. A. Kinnear” 5.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.The Reception Committee included former presidents of the Chamber of Commerce. 6.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.Reception & Entertainment committee members and honorary guests are listed. 7.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.The other side has a check offset etching for the “Auditor’s Office” of “The Treasurer of Wayne County, Ohio.” and, letterhead offset engravings for “The Capital City Products Co.” 8.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.Printers reused the lithographic limestones by grinding & refacing the stone. Both sides were utilized. This side appears to be created in the 1920's, about 5 years later, as evidenced by the fill-in blank digit space after “year” “192_.” The checks were printed for the “Auditor’s Office” in “Wooster, Ohio” of “The Treasurer of Wayne County, Ohio.” 9.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.The other area is what appears to be a label & letterhead for “The Capital City Products Co.” of Columbus, Ohio, (now a Div. of Stokely-Van Camp, Inc., Columbus, Ohio). They were the leading “Refiners of Edible Oils, including Hydrogenated Oils, Vegetable Shortenings, Pressed Hard Cocoanut Butters” & Vegetable Oil Specialties” 10.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.Lithographic limestone is hard limestone that is sufficiently fine-grained, homogeneous and defect free to be used for lithography. Around 1915, quarries near Overton County, Tennessee and Orchard, Iowa were the primary sources for Lithographic limestone in America. It is hard to say if this block was from these quarries or European sources. 11.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.The fine grain limestone allowed extremely fine detailed etchings. 12.Woodrow Wilson Lithograph Printing Stone, 1915 i.Dated December 10, 1915, this lithographic limestone printing plate is an important and historical presidential “document” of President Woodrow Wilson’s term, References to the speech he gave at luncheon can be found on the internet.
