A very limited production of 250 hand built,high quality, finely detailed desks were crafted by Ercol UK in the early 1990\'s. With much of the country\'s elm trees destroyed by Dutch Elm Disease, it is no longer possible to cut down an elm tree to produce furniture. These desks were crafted from carefully selected fallen trees on theEstate of Floors Castle in Scotland.
History: I purchased this desk, number 25, for 3,300 pounds (around $5,600) from Paul Adams Furnishings in Hull, UK in 1995 while on foreign assignment. I returned to the US in 1996 with this desk and continued to use it daily through 2008. In downsizing my living space in 2009, this desk was put into heated storage. I have decided that rather than waiting for the next \"perfect\" home for it to reside in, I am selling it so that it finds a new home to be admired and used!
Condition: This desk has been carefully used in a non-smoking home throughout its entire life. It has been cleaned according to instructions from the dealer. No oil or furniture polish has EVER been used. It has not been used by children. It does have some normal wear and tear, noted in the photos. I consulted with a furniture restorer several years ago and was assured all scratches could be fully removed. While I am offering this desk \"as is\" I can contact a nearby restorer to estimate if you are interested and have repair work done prior to delivery, adding repair cost (no markup by me) to the final sale price. I have the original key to the desk.
The chair is also from Ercol. The upholstery is original and is showing signs of wear.I would prefer a local Seattle buyer to reduce risk of shipping damage but if you are the winning buyer and are a distance away, I will use a local fine furniture dealer to pack the desk and chair (note: the desk is actually three parts: two pedestals and the top). The prep charges will be added to the sale price and shipping cost.
This is a great opportunity to own a high quality piece of furniture with historical significance. I am not aware of any other Roxburghe Elm desk in the US.
