This listing is for an antique wooden carving of a wood duck drake.
Its a trade sign for (I\'m assuming) a decoy shop.
I picked it up at a local sale of an estate that was comprised almost entirely of very old Americana, advertising, and arts-and-crafts (1850-1950)
It measures 26\" x 13 3/8\" x 1 1/2\", and weighs less than four pounds.
Perfect age, size, and weight to hang on (or over) the door to your vintage decoy collection or shop.
It has a red glass eye, and original dry paint surface.
There\'s a small chip on the eye, and some dry-rot checking, but the wood is hard (not soft or spongy).
The head is made of a separate piece of wood, and is firmly attached (and original).
I\'m assuming that the four holes on the base plank were used to hold a \"DECOYS\" or \"OPEN/CLOSED\" sign.
Or, possibly simply to attach the sign to its mount (though it appears that it was hung on a flat surface,
as the front evidently had the most exposure).
Looks to be first quarter 20th C, but possibly as late as the 40\'s.
