This jar is being discontinued by our supplier. Once they are sold out, no more will be ordered. Typically, decorative Mason jars rise in price once production ceases. More people continue to want them, and most people who own them are unwilling to sell. If you are interested in owing one of these, don't wait and be left out.
This is a replicaMason's Patent Nov. 30th 1858 ONE GALLON Jar. It is not a direct reproduction, but ismodeled after genuine antique Mason's "Hero Cross" Patent Jars from the 1800s. Itis made from recycled glass which givesit apleasant light apple green color, and has a crudity rarely found in modern glass! The lid is coated in durable lead free lacquer, and fits the jar threads perfectly. The jar isnew, with no cracks or damage of any kind. Most of these jarshave smooth lips, sometimes finely ground, and have no base markings except for the bottle machine mark.(These jars are largely made by hand, and the process usedis crude by modern standards-these gallon jars often have tiny chips on the lip. This is normal for these jars)
I have shown it next to a quart jar to give you an idea of the size. The jar is just over 13 inches high, 6 inches wide at the base, and the opening is about 5 inches.
The pictures are typical, and there will be slight variations in glass bubbles and texture.
Genuine Antique GallonMason jars typically sell well in excess of $1000 each
