THE TILES:
There are four each 1-9 characters, four each 1-9 dots, four each 1-9 bamboos, four each of the winds NSEW, four each of the dragons Red, Green, White (Soaps) a beautiful bouquet of 16 assorted flowers. The tiles are all beautifully aged to a warm butterscotch color (see picture for reverse match of tiles). They include rare desirable Hawk Bamboos, beautiful Chrysanthemum Dots, and all Bamboos are from wood cuts that show their true likeness to real bamboo. They are magnificent.The White Dragons are displayed as a unique and delightful double-band forming a picture frame, the Green Dragons in a Chinese character, and the Red Dragons are also portrayed in Chinese symbols. The flowers are all set in images that your friends will admire– indeed each tile is an individual work of art. This set has never been stickered for use with jokers. The set has been lovingly used for National Mah Jongg League play with eight of the flowers having tiny ‘j’s placed on them without covering any part of the flower (these are easily, completely and safely removable). What a great idea– there has been no damage to the tiles, and none of that 1950\'s red nail polish.Tiles show no apparent wear or color loss, and the original beauty and quality is not disturbed with modern touch-up paint which decreases their value to collectors. No chips or cracks have been noted. Except for the desirable aged butterscotch coloring, these tiles look new and unused. They feel warm and wonderful. This is a really exquisite and desirable set.Approximate Tile size: 1 3/16\" x 13/16\" x 7/8\".Unlike other vintage tiles you may see on the internet these tiles are in ABSOLUTE UN-RETOUCHED CONDITION. THE RACKS:
5 gorgeous heavy matching solid colored Deep Ruby Red Bakelite racks with perfect thick matching Bing cherry-red end stops, show absolutely no chipping or cracking. The end-stops also have a very subtle butterscotch marbling (unfortunately does not show in the pictures), and the coin holders all have perfectly operating flippers that show their age but without any pitting in the metal. Rack size: 18 -1/4 inches long (16\" plus 2- 1/4\" for chip holder and stopper). The white metal coin holders are solid with no lacquer finish, but we are uncertain if it is a brass alloy, or it may be brass with zinc (which can be white).The racks come with 100 assorted old betting coins in the Chinese motif.The CASE:
This original TYL case comes with the set. It is in good condition, but the corners do show wear. The corners can be reinforced, and we are confident the case will give many years of storage and carrying usage. The handle is a gorgeous solid cranberry bakelite to go with the racks. It looks just like new. The interior is in excellent condition with a platform for the tile trays. The backing of the upper interior has a satin covering and the bottom matches the exterior. The case has been reinforced with 4 newer solid brass hinges, and will remain open if held, we believe because the brass hinges really hold it tightly.THE TILE TRAYS:
The 2 tile trays also have what appears to be a brown oil cloth covering with green felt lining, and are in perfect condition.Betting Wheel and Dice:
The betting wheel turns to expose numbers E,2,3, 4 and a Chinese character. It is round swirled marble-ey Amber on the front, and octagonal Burgundy bakelite on the back and it is valued at $40 if sold separately. The vintage pair of cherry juicy red dice are without any cracks or chips.Please be prepared to pay for what you buy. There are no returns unless the item is not as described.
