This unit makes use of an all important variable light intensity rheostat type switch that delivers an increasing light intensity through the otoscope and ophthalmoscope as you rotate the switch. It makes use of an ultra-bright 3.25 Volt Bosch Halogen lamp which is powered by 2 standard Csized alkaline batteries for a very long lasting and bright light (re-chargable C cell batteries also work well with our otoscope). IMPORTANT: The instrument handle utilizes a bayonet luer-locking mechanism for changing the instrument heads. The luer locking style is guaranteed to never wear out unlike the cheaper models that use a small screw to hold the heads in place. The heart of any otoscope is it's lens. Our otoscope lens is an optical quality GLASS lens with has been upgraded to a 5X magnification which has been specially coated to help resist scratches. Other lesser quality otoscopes come with acrylic lens that can scratch easily with time. Our lens also swings out of the way for foreign body removal or cleaning. Our otoscope contains an all metal insufflattor outlet instead of plastic. The otoscope comes complete with 3 sizes of re-useable specula infant, child and adult it also has a disposable specula attachment that will allow you to use standard disposable specula as well.
The professional model ophthalmoscope is of excellent quality and gives a very clear picture of the retina. It contains a complete set of lens from -25 to +40 diopters. (Health and Beauty) When i FIrst saw this product, well i wasnt really sure about buying it or not my fear was that it could be a really cheap Oto-Ophtalmoscope but NO, theis one is a heck of a deal is a really big product though, but still a really bright light in both components, theonly thing is that it uses 2 C (thick) Batteries, if you are lloking for a AA Batteries Handle this is not for you Still is a great product I recommend it !

(Health and Beauty) I am currently in grad school to become a nurse practitioner and it was "recommended" that we buy a dual-purpose scope for more practice outside clinical settings. I found this one and it was very reasonably priced and I am very happy with my purchase. The otoscope use works very well, and you are able to visualize everything you need to (tympanic membrane, cone of light, etc). The opthalmoscope does work, however the light is not as bright as other scopes I have used in office settings. Basically, it gets the job done for the price. I did not want to spend $500+ on a set that I was really just going to be using for practice or whenever a scope was not available at my clinical sites (which is rare). It does the job well and it is definitely a great practice set. If you are going to be using a scope frequently or needing to really visualize the eyes in depth, then it might be good to splurge for the more expensive Welch Allyns, but otherwise, this was a great purchase and will be perfect to get me through the last 2 semesters of my grad program!
