Rabbi Kasher Zionist Haggadah Engraving Jewish Israel Exodus Passover 4 Cups:
In 1950 an ultra Orthodox Rabbi by the name of Rav Menahem Kasher of the Torah Shleimah Institute compiled a scientific and historic Haggada. Swept up in the spirit of the founding of the State of Israel, Rav Kasher's Haggada emphasized the Zionistic aspirations found in the Hagada. He therefore had made a bunch of steel engraving prints to be included in the Hagadah stressing these aspects.
Before you are 2 such steel engraving prints with a explanation in Hebrew of the pictures you see before you. Here's the Hebrew translation: The illustration on the left represents the 4 Cups of the Passover Seder, representing the 4 expressions of Redemption that G-d promised to Moshe to redeem the Jewish people from Egypt. (See Ex. 6:6ff).
The 4 cups also symbolize the 4 Kingdoms that enslaved the Jewish people and that they were redeemed from them, Egypt, Babylonia, Persia and Greece (and the 5th cup Rome).
The 4 cups also symbolize the 4 encampments and Flags of the tribes of the Jewish people in the Desert...In the center of the camp was the Holy Ark of the Covenant with the Tablets. ..
On the 4 corners of this engraving are Mitzvot which have 4 in them: 4 parshiot in the Tefillin, 4 Species we take on Sukot, 4 Fringes on our cornered garments, and the 4 seasons in which the world is judged; on Passover (on grain), Shavuot (on Fruits),Sukot (Water) and Rosh Hashana (Man).
The second illustrated engraving symbolizes the 5th use of Redemption (And I shall bring you into the Land of Israel) in our beginning of Redemption (Itchalta D'Geulah) from the Edomite Exile and that we have merited to see the ingathering of the exiles to our Holyland and to rebuild it.
These 2 gorgeous engravings (you can actually FEEL the raised ink!) were reprinted in later editions but not made from steel engravings and this note by Rabbi Kasher was not included since it may have been to Zionistic!
Each engraving measures 6 x 8.5 inches and cannot be found sold ANYWHERE ON THIS PLANET. This engraving was also used by the way as the jacket cover for the first edition as well.
