Profusely illustrated, and published in Chicago by Standard Book Co. Sized 9x6 inches, bound in orange decorated Victorian cloth, bright gilt decorations. 574 pages. A complete panoply of Victorian era Vice, including Alcoholism, Immoral Literature, Gambling, Theater Amusements, Profanity, Tammany Hall and Political corruption, Suicide, Gold Fever, Gossip, Spiritualism (Occult beliefs), you name it. Some bought books like this in the Victorian age just to thrill to the breaking of community mores. Though the title page has an 1888 date, there is a penciled inscription from 1886. Publishers often dated their books ahead for longer shelf life.
