Rare 18c-19c Chinese Huanghuali Carved Openwork Lid Cover Stand Prunus Design :
Listed here today for sale is a large and very rare and amazing 18thc or early 19thc Chinese carved and pierced lid or cover made from HuangHuali wood in the most superbly executed prunus tree design produced in China sometime between c1790 to c1820 made for most likely a splendid porcelain vase, urn or large jar. This is the only lid I have come across in this manner and the quality of the workmanship and details are of the highest order showing tree trunks, winding branches. buds and open flower heads with the design continuing down onto the the rim which is rarely found and the top shows a excellent turned finial resting on a continuous ring of single leaf petal design. The underside shows the early construction methods with both the rim and the body of the cover being made from (6) separate sections and then glued together and carved with barely seeing where the individual sections meet. The color is a reddish brown with the outside portion actually having a low to medium sheen but I use a brighter light so these stands and lids can be viewed much easier and all faults are easily seen for the prospective buyers so in the images the lid looks much shinier than in reality. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, losses or repairs which is actually hard to believe but I think that it simply has been cared for very well through the years and is a excellent survivor. Sizes: Outside Diameter 8-1/4" x Inner Diameter of bottom ring 4-1/4" and the actual area where the mouth of the vase would fit is 5" with some room for play x Height 4" This is definitely one of the finest covers I have sold or seen so offer to win because if it gets by you it is something that you will wish you would have won for a very long time as it has happened to me many times.
