AN EXTREMELY RARE SIGNED AND DATED \"176(4)?\" 18TH CENTURY \"CATHOLIC\" SAMPLER PROBABLY AMERICAN. SIGNED \"THIS SAMPLER DONE BY ME ANN B GANIN(?) THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 176(4)?\".

THERE IS ORAL HISTORY THAT THIS SAMPLER DESCENDED IN A MASSACHUSETTS FAMILY FROM THE 18TH AND 19TH CENTURIES.

A FANTASTIC EARLY 18TH CENTURY SAMPLER WITH REFERENCE TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND CATHOLIC PRAYER.
IT HAS TWO MULTI COLORED ANGELS FLANKING THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. THERE IS ALSO THE \"APOSTLES CREED PRAYER\" AS WELL AS THE \"LORD\'S PRAYER\".

ON THE TOP IT HAS THE MAKER\'S NAME AND DATE.
THERE IS SOME VERY SLIGHT THREAD LOSS IN THE NAME AND DATE BUT WE BELIEVE IT SAYS:
\"THIS SAMPLER DONE BY ME ANN B GANIN(?) THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 176(4)?.

ON THE BOTTOM ON THE SAMPLER ARE THE WORDS \"GOD SAVE THE KING\". Although it references the King, we believe the sampler was made here in the colonies. It was made before the Revolution and it would have reference and praise to the King.

NOT ONLY IS THIS A VERY RARE AND DECORATIVE SAMPLER IT IS ESPECIALLY RARE TO HAVE A SAMPLER FROM THIS PERIOD REFERENCE THE \"CATHOLIC\" RELIGION. WE BELIEVE THIS REFERENCE AND CATHOLIC PRAYERS WITHIN THE SAMPLER ALSO ATTEST TO ITS BEING MADE HERE IN THE COLONIES.

Fantastic design and workmanship throughout.
It has very nice colors and there is very little fading.

There are some minor thread losses as seen in the photos and there are a couple of old moth holes in the corners, (see photos).

It is in a mid 19th century Veneered frame.

IT HAS GREAT DETAIL AND WONDERFUL COLORS.

Further research should be done on this sampler.

The frame is 20 1/2\" tall and 16 1/2\" wide. The Sampler is 16 1/2\" tall and 112\" across.

This sampler needs further research.
