Rare 1900s French Tin Wind Up Toy Car With Bisque Doll Chauffeur - Pinard France:
This is a wonderful tin wind up toy car made in the 1900's by Eugene Pinard in Paris, France. His company started in 1900 and he made luxury toy cars which are now very desirable. This one is an impressive piece at almost 10 inches long and 10 inches high to the top of the driver's hat. The driver is the original figure and is almost impossible to find in and of itself. The driver is a small doll with a bisque/ porcelain head, hands and feet and beautiful blue glass eyes. The chauffeur's outfit is made with incredible detail including the tiny buttons and even the star on his cap.
This type of car was called a vis-a-vis because the driver and the passenger would sit face to face. This was a top luxury toy during its time which is evident from many details including the fine leather seats with buttonupholstery. The car also features luxury rubber tires, a front headlight and steerable wheels. Notice also the amazing detailing of the elaborate early cast metal car horn attached to the steering wheel just like the real cars of that period. The toy works well - the rear wheels turn and make the car move forward when wound.
If you collect antique toys from the 1900's, you will know that hardly any toys of this vintage and quality come up on anymore, and this is a fantastic toy which would be the highlight of anyadvanced antique toy collection. Happy offerding!!
