Rare 1905 Sterling Placer Gold Mine Snow Storm Hydraulic Co. Fairplay Colorado:
. . . . after a bit of research on the Internet - Snow Storm Hydraulic Co. was formed in 1905 to begin Placer Gold Mining in Fairplay,Coloradoan areawith plenty of waterfor hydraulic sluicing and, of course, the promise and hope of lots and lots of GOLD! At full operating capacity, the Company employed a large force of men whom hydraulically dredged 50 to 100 tons of ore daily. Sadly, the Company went bust within one year when no Gold was found and closed in 1906 which makes this SterlingSilver Snow Storm Hydraulic Co. Spoon exceedingly rare. The bowl is Gold over Sterling Silver and depicts a hydraulic pump shooting water at a huge sluice box of ore and reads "Snow Storm Hydraulic Co. Placer Mine Fairplay." The handle says "Colorado" and depictsa Man with a pickax with the caption "Lone Prospector." Right above this is an image of a pack mule. The very top of the spoon handledepicts another pack mule.Beautiful images contrasting the old fashion way of gold mining with a pickax and the new modern hydraulic method. It’s marked Sterling with the letter “H”. The spoon is in good condition but is very tarnished . . . weighs 15 grams and is 5 5\8" long . . . an excellent and rare Antique - Turn of the Century - Historical Sterling Silver Spoon.
