This is an extraordinarily rare 1960s Sony Boy advertising doll figure on original base marked: "TRANSISTOR RADIOS. TAPE RECORDERS".If you're lucky, you can still find 4" and even 7" Sony Atchan dolls that were used for advertising, gifts or display but who has ever seen one of these 18" (a foot and a half!) tall shop display figures??!!

It is made from a rubbery plastic material and is marked on the back 1963 Made In Japan.

Condition:vintage condition - he was found in a shed filled up with gravel so, considering this, he's not doing too badly! He has been rescued and we have cleaned him up as best as we can but we do not want to damage him and we are not experts so will leave it to the winning buyer to do the rest. He needs a really good clean, especially inside; he stands up perfectly as shown but has a tendency to lean his head forward as seen in the picturesbut this could definitely be trained back to its original position (and actually looks really cute anyway - like he's looking down on the radios and tape recorders); he has some areas of brown staining - I don't know what this is but it does come off (you can see that I have cleaned an area on the lower part of his tummy and his left cheek) but it is quite hard work and, as I say, I don't want my ignorance to ruin him; there's also a little bit of black paint on his tummy which I have started to remove with an abrasive cloth and water and this too shouldn't be a problem; there is some drying out to the front top part of the base (again, shown in pictures). Actually, I think he's fine as he is. Please do not underestimate how rare this itemis - you are very unlikely to see another.Approx 18" in height. We may not be experts in every item we list so please take as much information as possible from photographs or email for any clarification.
