Rare A.bagni Raymor Harlequin Horseman 60's Mid-century Modern Bitossi Gambone:
An incredible, RARE, LARGE mid-century modern Italian pottery sculpture of a smiling figure on horseback (Don Quixote, etc.) by Ceramica Alvino Bagni for Raymor, glazed white porcelain in a handpainted black and white abstract harlequin / zebra pattern. This would look right at home with a collection of Gio Ponti, Fornasetti, Guido Gambone, Bitossi, Fantoni pieces. This is the only one of this particular decorative pattern / motif that I have seen in 15 years of collecting. In that time I have seen only 3 examples with different, less interesting glazes come up for sale. Don't miss out...I will probably only list this piece once.
The piece is in superb, mint condition. There is absolutely no accidental damage to the piece whatsoever. There are some manufacturing flaws here and there, a lot of crazing and a hairline crack (in the glaze only) on one side (see photo) and some small spots where the glaze didn't cover entirely. This is to be expected.
