RARE ANTIQUE ANSONIA 8 DAY BRACKET / SHELF CLOCK. 8 DAY STRIKE MOVEMENT 1890\'s 1900\'s. CASE FOR CLEAN & RENOVATION

Here for sale I have an early 1900\'s Ansonia bracket / shelf clock with the case requiring some cleaning and renovation. I cleaned the movement 19 2016 an just have not got round to cleaning and renovating the case, so it can be a project for someone else. And it will be a truly superb clock when the case is cleaned and polished.
I have seen a lot of Ansonia clocks over the years but I have never seen this cased one before, and researching the hundreds of different cases and clocks in their long history I cannot find this one. Therefore I believe it is going to be a rare beastie. Case and movement are original to each other. It has just been seriously neglected over the years.

The clock movement is a typical Ansiona 2 train8 day movement with underslung gong and hammer. As stated Istripped and cleaned the clock 2016. And run it for some while whilst I carried on with other projects. Backplate states Ansonia, New York. Patent June 18 1882. The pictures do not show the pendulum and bob or key but I do have them and they will be supplied.

The wooden case is very sound but extremely grubby and tarnished as is the brasswork to the outer bezel, although the bezel is just tarnished and will clean. Case construction would appear to be in American oak with extensive carving to the front both raised and incised. Leaves , button shapes and the side columns are curved and reeded.This case will look an absolute stunner when done properly even if stripped and restained and polished. The only fault on the case is the right side lower moulding mitre has opened up slightly over the years, but only a small amount and easily rectified. As stated the main carcase is very strong and shows no loosening of joints and glue. Nice job for the winter. No sign of any worm etc.

The chapter ring dial is I believe in white enamel, sunken centre with a goldembossed plate. Fancy Ansonia scrollArabic numbers with clear outer minute markers. Dial is in great condition with no visible chips or hairlines. Dial is finished with Ansonia style hands which are original. And the slow / fast adjuster is above the twelve. The inner dial surround is typical pie crust style and it\'s condition is good. The outer bezel is dirty and requires cleaning and the bevel edged flat glass is very good but dirty. Hinge ok and shuts firmly.

All in all this is an excellent and rare antique clock that requires some love and attention to bring it back to it\'s former glory. I am just sad that I do not have the time anymore.
