Rare Antique Chinese Art Deco Carved Wood & Cut Glass Screen Room Divider:
would like to thank each of you who watched and participated in our last several sales of fabulous Chinese art. In response to the enthusiasm and
desire for rare and period Chinese pieces, we have been given the
opportunity to offer this extraordinary Chinese Shanghai Art Deco Room Divider.
room divider is carved from beautifully lacquered wood, with inset panels of cut glass above large medallions of huamu or burlwood. The lacquer is a stunning deep red imitating the color of Ming Period furniture. The divider is the essence of the Shanghai Art Deco Style during the 1920s-1940s of China. The divider is also a rare and important survivor of the period as there are few such pieces, especially such large examples, that have survived and are available to collectors. This is an astounding, high-profile piece - the type of item that would be found in the home of a very wealthy individual. It comes from an important Midwestern collection and was originally collected in China many decades ago.
The room divider is comprised of 6 panels and is in good condition for the period, measuring 99 inches tall by 126 inches wide (251.5 cm tall by 320 cm wide). There are no cracks to any of the glass panels. There is standard wear to the wood from age.
Room Dividers and Screens of this style, size, and quality rarely come available, and when they do, it is only at
major sale houses like Sotheby's or Christie's – we are confident that you will not see another Chinese Art Deco Screen on ever again! They are hard to find anywhere! A modest price for a piece of this caliber would be $50,000 in China, but we have been instructed to set the reserve much, much lower as the current owner wishes to pass this treasured piece of history onto the next collector.
This is a rare opportunity to add a major piece of furniture to your Important Collection of Chinese Art. It is also an important opportunity for the investor of Chinese Art. Standard freight shipping to your closet port is included for FREE in the sale, but we are happy to arrange air freight or freight forwarding to your home or shop at an additional charge if desired.
