Rare Antique Chinese Silver Card Case By Wang Hing Ca. 1880:
This is an extraordinary,fineand rareantique silvercard case created by the Wang Hing ca. 1880.In highrelief, the case features detailed floral (chrysanthemum) and crab designs on one side and aquatic, floral and squirrel designswith vacant shield reserve on the other side.The case opens to reveal a fully marked inner lips, displaying the marks of silversmith Wang Hing andsilver content (90/100). As can be seen in the images, the marksfor Wang Hing are in English letters (WH) and Chinese characters.
TheHong Kongsilversmith Wang Hing made and sold wonderful, fine examples of Chinese silver, primarily for the western market, between 1875 and 1925. His wares were so popular and outstanding that he was commissioned for special order work by Tiffany & Company, European royalty, and Indian Maharajas.
The card case measures 3 7/8in. (9.8cm)in height, 2 5/8in. (6.7 cm) in width, and 3/8in. (1.0 cm) in thickness. It weighs 88 grams (2.8 ozs. troy/3.1 ozs.).This highly desirable and collectiblecase is in excellent condition, as can be seen in the images.
