THIS LISTING IS FOR AN UNUSUAL BLACK LACQUER "ZUSHI" SHRINE WITH CARVED BUDDHIST FIGURE INSIDE.
BLACK LACQUERED CASE WITH 2 DOORS THAT OPENS TO REVEAL A SEATED GILT WOOD THRONE WITH FLAME MANDORIA WITH A SEATED BUDDHA FIGURINE. THIS TEMPLE ALTAR SHRINE IS BEAUTIFULLY CARVED AND GILT DECORATED WITH GOLD LEAF.THESE TEMPLE SHRINES WERE GENERALLY CARRIED BY A TRAVELING MONK AND USED FOR PRAYERS. MEIJI PERIOD 1850-1900.THE CASE STANDS 8 3/4" HIGH, 3 3/4" WIDE AND 2 1/2" DEEP, 8 1/2" WIDE WITH DOORS OPEN.THE OVERALL CONDITION ISVERY GOOD COMMENSURATE WITH AGE WITH THE BUDDAH FIGURE IN GREAT CONDITION AND THE GOLD LEAF HAS LOVELY AGED PATINA. THERE IS SOME MINOR DAMAGE IN THE LACQUER ON THE TOP OF THE CASE AND SMALL STRESS CRACKS AROUND THE UPPER EDGES. THE FRONT CLOSURE IS NOT COMPLETE AND THERE ARE A FEW SMALL NICKS IN THE FINISH ON THE TOP AT THE FRONT. (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS).NOOTHER NOTED DAMAGE OR REPAIRS.
