Rare Antique Yomud Turkoman "tree" Asmalyk. Natural Dyes And Full Pile Condition For Sale
ANTIQUE YOMUD GROUPTURKOMAN "TREE" ASMALYK (Camel Wedding Trapping), Central Asian tribal, Turkmenistan, third quarter of the 19th century, andcomingin excellentoverall condition for the rug collector specialist. The size is:2'-1" x 3'-11" (64 x 120cm).A rare and beautiful specimen of a Yomud Turkmen asmalyk displaying five vertical rows of the "Yomud tree" or "gapyrga" motifs. This asmalykweaving is symmetrically knotted with natural medium brown wool warps and wefts comprised of finely spun medium brown wool (or camel hair?) and natural ivory cotton. All of the dyes are 100% natural and derived from plant sources. The pile condition is excellent with the original side cords over-castings and the original top and bottom end finishes. There is one small gouge at the very point of the top apex and both corners have had past small "nicks" repaired along with a small tear on the top left corner. There is one small, crude mend along the top right border.None of these blemishes are large enough to detract from the eye, but it is very important that rug dealers be very specific with an overall condition report about what they are offering. This lovely weaving is immediately ready for a collection, or for use as a decorative tribal textile art wall hanging display, but aprofessional hand cleaning will make it glisten as it is just a bit dusty from long time storage. If you have any questions aboutthisrare, topcollectible quality, antique Yomud group Turkmen asmalyk, email Michael Phillips(READ: phillips rugs at comcast dot net)or feel free to call my studio at (303) 885-7599.
