Rare Antique 18th C 19th Wood Iron Herb Utensil Game Rack Folk Art Aafa Complete For Sale
47 3/4" Long x 8 1/2" High 7 lbs
Wonderful Late 18th / Early19th CenturyCarved Wooden Game Board / Utensil Rack
A splendid piece ofearly American folk art, this circa 1780-1830 board is a wonderful representationof someone placing an artful element in an otherwise utilitarian item. A piece such as this is often referred to as a 'game board' as it's primary function would have been tohave game and fowl hang from one of thewrought iron hooksas it awaited preparation from a cookor hearth attendee. Likewise, as domestic workers would have returned from a garden or marketplace, the piece wouldalso have served to hold vegetables, herbs and periodcooking utensils. As
you can see the piece is a single piece of cherry or similar species wood, the original
craftsman or owner made the piece unique in its formation with the
carved designs.
Each of the wrought iron hooks is all hand forged, blacksmith made. Today
this piece would make an excellent way to display a set of period
utensils, miniature baskets herbs, and other fine country antiques. Similar examples can be seen on the celebrated interiors of "Country Living" magazines book of period homes.
This wonderful country rack is certain to be a warm addition to any period decorum. Offered for a period of one week with and a low starting offer. Thanks for visiting The Country Tin and be sure to visit our store for other examples of period folk art and primitives! All 100% guaranteed authentic or your money back
