A Very Rare and Large Antique Late 19th Century Chinese Handpainted & Signed Qing Dynasty 清朝 Folding Fan with Enameled Metal (Silver?) Guardsticks

Description

This only the second example of this type of Chinese fan I have seen in my 15 years of fan collecting. It is a very large fan that I think dates to the late 19th century.
The fan is made of enameled metal (silver?) guardsticks, inner bamboo sticks and a double handpainted paper leaf with applied strips of gold coloured paper. The guardsticks show butterflies and birds, Shòu symbols and other characters, some are enameled in turquoise, yellow and pink. The front leaf is handpainted with 2 young ladies collecting waterlilies or similar plants. The leaf is signed on the upper right side in red (the signature is partially covered by the gold coloured paper strips). The border is made of applied paper strips, arranged in a geometric pattern. The reverse is plain gold in colour.
The fan measures 11.75\" long and 21\" wide at its widest point. The measurements for this fan in centimeters are 30 cm long and 53 cm wide.
The fan is in very good condition. The flaw I noticed was minor loss of the gold strip decoration on the lower edge of the leaf (see photos).
