RARE Antique 19th Century ST. LOUIS Red Glass INKWELL 1830s 1840s France Baroque:

Rare c. 1835-1845 St. Louis Baroque style pressed glass inkstand with inkwell and sand shaker, composed of marbled brick red glass, weighs 4.35 lbs. and measures 9-3/4\" L x 6-3/4\" W x 3\" H.
The inkwell is illustrated in the 1841catalog of Launay, Hautin & Cie. (refer to photo #2 to view the catalog illustration). Launay Hautin was a retailer of high-end French glass from makers such as St. Louis and Baccarat.A smaller version of this inkwell is in the permanent collection of the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY. CONDITION: The inkstand has occasional chips and nicks around the outer edges of the top and just below the top edges (to the \"acanthus leaf cornice\"). Interestingly, the CMOG example also has chips and nicks to the same area. There are small chips and nicks to the edges of the holes that hold the inkwell and sand shaker. There\'s a white inclusion flaw to the edge of the center dish. There are occasional surface crease flaws (where the glass did not fully expand in the mold) to the sides of the inkstand. There are a few small chips to the bottom of the inkstand.There are occasional flakes to the top edges of the inkwell and chips to the holes in the sand shaker. Please note, the mentioned chips and flaws are visible in the photos. I didn\'t find any chips to the decorative scrolled side panels or legs (all the area below the \"acanthus leaf cornice\"). There are NO cracks or repairs.
