It is 6” tall, and the pattern appears thrice around the body. There are three “zippers,” plus three objects in high relief that are just about as Art Nouveau as anything imaginable. Well, that may be a stretch, but you knowwhatImean.
One of the best things about selling on is the ability to reach out to fellow ists for help. Since I’ve always thought of it as my “Zipper & Sperm” vase, I knew I needed help identifying the real name of the pattern, and sure enough, I got it from the kindred spirits on one of the forums. First dilemma solved: It is “Tornado” by Northwood.
The last hurdle facing me was one with which I had to deal on my own. Should I charge extra for the chips around the bottom rim? I decided not to. So – both problems solved, here it is for you to make a run at. The chipping can be seen in the image above, but I’ll show you better pictures of it in a jiffy. Just keep your panties on.
It is not marked with Northwood’s “N” in a circle, but it is most certainly well documented. Thanks again to the folks on that forum for directing me to the proper sources.
The color when seen through bright light? Beautiful – and it even has bubbles.
More images and commentary continue below my three "Prime Directives:"
1st: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and rarely do I ask for an opening offer of more than $9.00 (sometimes even less).
2nd: I never end sales early.
3rd: I don’t usually clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. I push enough dust aside to expose any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I'll tell you about it.
So rest easy and have some fun.
You have now seen the vase from every direction. Let’s look at the chips.
The damaged area spans 1 ½” along the bottom rim. The good news: There is no other damage to the vase – just this one mishap.
Dang it! Dang it!
Oh well, at least you can turn that side to the back.
I still like “Zipper & Sperm” better than “Tornado,” but . . . the privilege of naming is always that of the designer. I can live with that.
My preferred method of payment is PayPal.
