Rare Complete Antique Victorian 1/2 Plate Camera "the Victo" With Lens & Shutter For Sale
This is a rare complete and fully functional mahogany and brass 1/2 plate camera - the Victo which was made by Houghton from 1898. It has an early Thornton Pickard roller blind shutter, a model I haven't seen before, and a lovely unmarked brass lens with F stops of 8 all the way up to 64. Both shutter and lens are in splendid, undamaged condition and fully functional. On the base of the camera is a rotating tripod head and there are two book style double dark plate holders. One of the latter has an old repair to a crack - this is clearly shown in the next to last picture, the plate holder at the front - the other is in very good condition. The plate holders are for plates measuring 6.5 x 4.75 inches and the camera folds up to a tidy 8 x 8.25 x 2.25 inches overall, without the lens, of course. The bellows is in very good condition with no holes or splits and the extending mechanism is very smooth and postive - even the carrying strap is still there and strong enough to use. This is a really exceptional example of the Victorian mahogany and brass camera and a stunning display item that could be put to use successfully after all these years. Because the weight will be about 2.5kg when packed we have only quoted P&P for UK parcel delivery. We are happy to ship anywhere in the world but do ask international buyers to request a quotation for P&P to their country before offerding please. Paypal is the preferred form of payment and there is no charge for this service. Personal cheques, postal orders and bank drafts are acceptable but these may delay shipment while funds are cleared. All payments must be in UK Pounds.
All goods will be very carefully packed and sent by first class post or airmail unless otherwise stated. The quoted cost of delivery includes a small allowance for packing material. We are pleased to discount this P&P cost for multiple purchases wherever possible and, if our P&P estimate proves to have been too high, we will refund any excess payment after shipment. We are happy to ship to almost anywhere in the world - if your country isn't listed please request the P&P cost.

We will refund the offer price including P&P charges if the item has a material defect not previously disclosed, or if it is significantly different from the description given. To obtain such a refund, the item must be returned within a reasonable time in its sold condition.
